FRANCE VOLONTAIRES TO SUPPORT FRENCH FOR ALL FOUNDATION WITH RESOURCE PERSONS FROM FRANCE

Time with Mr. Alexis Kouassi Soungalo, the Country Representative of FRANCE VOLONTAIRES in GHANA, COTE D’IVOIRE and LIBERIA

What is FRANCE VOLONTAIRES and when was it established?

FRANCE VOLONTAIRES is an International solidarity organization which is working under the umbrella of the France Ministry of Foreign Affairs. It has been in existence since 1963 and was originally called FRENCH ASSOCIATION OF PROGRESS VOLUNTEERS (AFVP). However, since the end of 2010, we changed our name and our goals have expanded. We work to promote French volunteerism internationally. In countries where we have interventions, we sustain all kinds of local initiatives which aim at promoting local volunteerism, but also carry out philanthropic activities and several projects.

What services do you offer?

We work to promote French volunteerism abroad. We do this through special groups or categories:

The Volunteers for International Solidarity: this deals with young undergraduates who have little or no experience and who work on the programme for between 12 to 24months.
The Volunteers for Exchange of Skills: this deals with retired and very experienced persons who serve between 3weeks to 3months.
The civil Society Volunteers: this takes care of young people within the age bracket of 16-24 years without previous experience, and they serve between 6 to 12months
Benefactors for youth workshops: this has to do with students who are in school who come to willingly participate in workshops during the summer holidays.

Where is FRANCE VOLONTAIRES located in Ghana?

FRANCE VOLONTAIRES is on the Alliance Francaise premises, at the Airport Residential Area, just behind Opeibea House.

For the period that the organization has operated in Ghana, what has it been able to achieve?

We set up in Ghana since 2007, and about 50 volunteers have served so far on various missions in Ghana and have had considerable effects and impacts.

We have distributed many volunteers in various Ghanaian Institutions such as the Ministry of Agriculture, Audited Regional Offices in Tamale, WA, Ho, Bolgatanga, etc.

We have also worked with institutions such as Ghana Association of French Teachers (GAFT), GHAMS Multiservice, Uni Hydro, New horizon Special School, the Alliance Francaise centers in Kumasi and Accra, University of Cape Cosat, the organization Hope for life, by way of promoting French language and Culture and many more interventions

What are your challenges?

Most of our difficulties, essentially, are as a result of the fact that we wish to initiate more volunteers’ missions in Ghana. However, we have not succeeded much in this area

What are your next steps?

Currently, we seek to continue to plan more activities. We have an Action Plan which conforms with our objectives which we work to achieve.

What are your thoughts on Ghana?

Ghana is a commendable showcase of stability for West Africa. We have a positive opinion of Ghana and would wish that its growth would be accelerated.

Thank you for your time and consideration.
